Jazz vocalist and trumpeter Christine Fawson brings legendary trombonist Phil Wilson to Woods Hole Community Hall in Falmouth on Cape Cod, Thursday, March 3rd at 7:30 PM for an evening of classic jazz standards and original jazz compositions. Fawson met Wilson at the Berklee College of Music and credits him for coaxing her from the brass section to front one of his big bands as a jazz vocalist. Wilson became a mentor for the young jazz musician, and she was asked to join the Berklee faculty at age 23. Fawson met Wilson at the Berklee College of Music and credits him for coaxing her from the brass section to front one of his big bands as a jazz vocalist. Phil Wilson began his career in the 50s performing with the Dorsey Brother’s Orchestra and he earned fame as a soloist with Woody Herman’s 1960’s “Thundering Herd.” He won a Grammy nomination for his arrangement of “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy” while working as Buddy Rich’s principal arranger. He is a long-time professor at the Berklee College of Music. Rounding out the quintet are Mark Shilansky (piano), Bruce Gertz (bass) and Steve Langone (drums).
